I bought the no 4 because I wanted an alternative to my Griswold chef skillet. The cooking area surfaces are roughly equivalent. The no 4 is considerably lighter and better made & sits flatter on the range but it is not as versatile as the chef design. It now lives on the stove-top along with my Field no 8, no 10, & the Griswold chef.

I’ve been using this on and off since I got it and once i got over the intimidation of learning how to use it, it quickly became my favorite pan in the house. It’s non toxic and doesn’t wear with metal. Very versatile. The recipes they send periodically have all been fun and easy! I love this pan and will likely get another size. The polished inside made/makes everything even easier and it’s not too heavy!

After testing other brands, I must say, Field is the best cast iron cookware on the market, in terms of quality, looks and performance. It is lighter but still has the necessary mass on the bottom for good heat retention. It seasons faster than other brands due to the lighter weight. Not as fast as Carbon steel but almost there. No sacrifice in performance. Just added convenience and efficiency. The seasoning looks smooth and even unlike other brands.
If you can afford it and you like to cook, I would highly recommend this brand.

I love ❤️ the weight, the smooth surface and it’s simple to clean. It’s exactly what the doctor ordered. Plus I think I missed getting the iron every day. He’s on the stove, clean, ready to go to work.
